Westwood Public Schools' student musicians did not disappoint at their annual All Town String Concert on May 13 in the Westwood High School auditorium, where the ensemble and solo performances were exceptional.

The Elementary Strings, Thurston Middle School Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Westwood High School Orchestra each had a chance to individually shine by playing a handful of selections on their own.

Noteworthy was the playing of cellist Henrick Lugurs with pianist Narawut Kamolrtanapiboon. Their talents were featured in the high school orchestra's performance of  "It Is Well" by Philip Bliss, arranged by Riley. Together with the orchestra, the duo helped create a tender, warm, and contemplative performance of the piece.

Their performances were followed by a finale in which all of the students played "Skyline Rising" by Kirt Mosier. Directed by Alicia Winslow and Robert Goldman, with the benefit of months of instruction by Prodigy Program instructors Johann Soults and Joshua Lennox, the 124 mixed-aged performers were thoughtfully organized, with stronger string sections positioned to support and include younger players, who were given the opportunity to observe and hear what they might become as musicians in a few years.
