On Tuesday, August 4, Westwood Police received reports of vehicles break-ins at the address of at three residences on Burgess Avenue, and two similar reports that same day from nearby Sunrise Road and Beechnut Road.

The break-ins appear to have occurred overnight, and at least some of the vehicles were unlocked, according to Detective Lieutenant Christopher Aylward.

Police received the earliest of the multiple reports at 6:50 a.m., from a Burgess Avenue resident who said that both his vehicle and his wife’s Lexus SUV had been rummaged through. He reported that spare change was missing from his car, and no items missing from the Lexus.

Another Burgess Avenue resident reported that someone had entered her Toyota Highlander and stolen her work laptop, two wallets, and a credit card. One of the wallets contained a school ID. She told police that her spouse, who was preparing to leave for work, observed a motor vehicle leaving the area with its lights off at around 3:45 a.m. The complainant told police this was unusual because there typically is little traffic on the street at that early morning hour.

Another Burgess Avenue resident reported that sunglasses and a camera with a combined estimated value of $150 were taken from a Subaru Ascent. Police said security camera footage showed a white male in light-colored clothing exiting one of the complainant’s vehicles.

Police also received a report from Beechnut Road about break-ins to a Nissan Pathfinder and a Jeep Wrangler. It appears that $15 and loose change were taken from the Pathfinder. Nothing was missing from the Jeep.

The last report of August 4 came at 8:34 p.m. from Sunrise Road. The resident reported that a Toyota RAV4 and a Volvo had been rummaged through. Spare change was missing from the RAV4, and possibly also a Kate Spade backpack. Both vehicles had been unlocked.

Two days later, police received a report from Westchester Drive of a vehicle being rummaged through. Although nothing was reported missing, the complainant gave police a lighter that was found inside the vehicle which did not belong to them.
