Suspect in Norwood Gun Shop Break-In Faces Additional Shoplifting Charges in Westwood

According to Westwood Police, investigators believe that Aaron Woodrum of Kentucky - who was arrested by Norwood Police on Monday, May 18 as a suspect in connection with the break-in of a Norwood gun shop - may have stolen black clothing and a black backpack from the Target store in Westwood which he may later have worn during the break-in.

After Norwood Police recovered clothing that they believe was worn by the individual involved in the break-in, Norwood Police asked Westwood Police to investigate whether such clothing had been stolen from the Target store in Westwood.

With the cooperation of Target store staff and help of the store’s surveillance video, Westwood Police identified two instances of apparent shoplifting on May 16 and May 17 in which Mr. Woodrum is believed to be involved. A person believed to be Mr. Woodrum was observed placing clothing into a black backpack and walking out of the store without paying, said Detective Lieutenant Christopher Aylward of the Westwood Police Department.

According to Det. Lt. Aylward, Target staff have reported missing merchandise that includes a black tee shirt, black hoodie, black pants, and sneakers. Merchandise valued at about $208 is believed to have been taken from the store on May 16. Merchandise valued at $94 is believed to have been taken on May 17, he said.

The shoplifting case in Westwood may help provide investigators with evidence that could be used to show preparation by Mr. Woodrum for the alleged break-in, said Det. Lt. Aylward.

According to Norwood Police, surveillance video from the gun shop break-in on the night of May 17 shows a suspect wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt, mask, and gloves, taking firearms from display cases.

Westwood Police plan to charge Mr. Woodrum with two counts of shoplifting. Det. Lt. Alyward expects that Mr. Woodrum will be charged with one count of shoplifting by asportation and one count of shoplifting by concealment.

Thanks to Detective Lieutenant Christopher Aylward and Westwood Police for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
