Table version of Musical Chairs?

11:40 a.m. Police received a report from a school official at the Sheehan School that a table with bench had been stolen from the school’s tented outdoor lunch area. A police officer responded and was able to locate the object, which someone had moved elsewhere around the school property. The schools’ custodians were able to return the table to its appropriate location.

Revoked registration

12:35 a.m. A police officer conducting stationary traffic enforcement on Washington Street ran a query on the license plate of a passing red Jeep. The officer learned that the Jeep’s registration had been revoked for lack of insurance on April 15, 2021.

The officer followed the Jeep onto East Street, and pulled it over near the Norfolk Golf club. The driver was issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with a revoked registration.

The officer transported the driver to the driver’s residence in Dedham. A tow company removed the Jeep.

Mysterious bone found

8:51 a.m. A Westwood resident came into the police station with a bone fragment. The resident found the bone a few days earlier while hiking at Sen Ki reservation. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigated and determined that it was a non-human bone that could be disposed.

New York, New York

11:31 a.m. Amtrak Police requested assistance from Westwood Police at the Route 128 Station. Two Westwood Police officers responded and assisted with briefly holding a suspect in custody. The 23 year-old New Yorker had an active warrant for his arrest, and needed to be held until Amtrak Police could obtain a caged cruiser.

While Westwood Police were assisting that case, another incident arose at the station with an extremely intoxicated man. Westwood Police kept an eye on the 41 year-old man until Amtrak Police were able to assist him back to his home in New York.

Police destroy firearm

2:04 p.m. Relatives of a recently deceased Westwood resident discovered an old firearm in the Porter Street home. The firearm, a Remington 870, 12-gauge shotgun, was turned over to the Police Department to be destroyed.



Apologetic shoplifter

6:01 p.m. A police officer was dispatched to Wegmans to assist the store’s loss prevention staff in obtaining positive identification for a shoplifting suspect. The suspect, a man, was not carrying any identification.

He been observed trying to leave the store with $551 of unpaid merchandise that he concealed in a container. The man was reported to be cooperative and apologetic when intercepted by loss prevention staff.

The police officer was able to obtain an identification. The 28 year-old man from Newton will be summoned to court to face charges of shoplifting.

Treating a street like an expressway

7:49 p.m. A 2017 Ford Escape went speeding by an officer who was patrolling in a cruiser on Pond Street. The officer also noticed the SUV had a tail light out.

The officer followed the SUV to Oak Street, after clocking it at 50 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone. The officer initiated a stop.

Inside the car was a young couple, Norwood residents, with two small children. The officer discovered the driver was operating the vehicle on a suspended license and issued the driver a citation.

The driver switched places with the adult passenger who was able to drive the car away.

Screech and thud reveal no answers

2:13 a.m. A resident of Clapboardtree Street reported hearing the screeching of brakes followed by a loud thud. Police officers responded. A check of the area did not reveal any disturbance.

DoorDash while driving

3:35 p.m. A police officer conducting stationary traffic enforcement on High Street observed the driver of a brown Cadillac sedan peering down at his cell phone while driving by. The officer initiated a traffic stop and learned from the driver that he had been using DoorDash, the meal delivery service, while driving.

After running a query on the driver, a 21 year-old man from Douglasville, Georgia, the officer found that a warrant had been issued for the man’s arrest. He had failed to appear on an issue before the Stoughton District Court.

The man was arrested and issued a citation for violating the Hands-Free Law. He was released on personal recognizance.
