Fleeing an accident scene while under the influence
1:25 a.m. A caller reported a two-car accident with possible injuries in the University Station parking lot. A gray, 2020 Volkswagen Cross Sport SUV entered the north end of the lot near Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, and struck an unoccupied 2015 Ford Escape that was parked outside the Gables University Station Apartments. The force of the crash moved the Ford Escape a distance of 25 feet, and caused major damage to both cars.
The caller reported that following the collision, the Cross Sport SUV was attempting to leave the scene by driving across the parking lot toward Lifetime Fitness. Police found the SUV in the parking lot outside Target, traveling toward Lifetime Fitness. The vehicle continued to travel despite police flashing blue lights.
Upon reaching the Lifetime Fitness lot, the driver attempted to exit the SUV. Police ordered him to remain seated. The driver cooperated.
