Wednesday, January 12, 2022

7:16 p.m. Westwood Police were dispatched to a residence on Poplar Street at the request of Weymouth Police Department to assist an assault and battery investigation. An incident had occurred in Weymouth and a man living in Westwood was alleged to be involved. Police visited the address but he was not at home at that time.

5:14 p.m. A resident of Baker Street reported that kids were knocking on the door and running away. An officer checked the area, but did not see find anyone fitting their description.

Thursday, January 13, 2022

11:05 a.m. A resident of Birch Tree Drive reported a fraudulent withdrawal from a bank account on January 12, 2022. Charges in the amounts of approximately $158, $87, and $877 were made without the resident’s authorization. The bank reversed the withdrawals.

Friday, January 14, 2022

2:35 a.m. Police responded to a one-car accident involving a 2005 Acura that was traveling at a high speed southbound on Providence Highway  when it struck a Jersey barrier in the median. The vehicle bounced off the barrier into the guardrail on the far right of the road, and then bounced off the guardrail back to the median. The driver, a 19 year-old male from Dedham, was seriously injured. Paramedics from Westwood Fire transported him to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Westwood. Charges are pending for OUI liquor.

12:25 p.m. A woman residing on Porter Street reported a case of identity theft. The resident received bills for a Credit One Bank credit card account, which was never opened by the resident. The charges on the card totaled $1,314.92. The woman made a police report to help her authenticate the issue with the credit card company.

7:30 p.m. The adult daughter of an older parent residing on Longwood Drive reported to police that her father was the victim of credit card fraud. There was a charge of $6,000 on his credit card which was not made by him.

Separately, the father reported to police that he had earlier received a call allegedly from Microsoft. The caller told him his account had been hacked and that he should send $2,000 in Apple gift cards. The father made the Apple purchase online, and gave the gift card numbers to the alleged Microsoft employee. Police advised the father that the hacking call was a scam and advised him to place a watch on his credit card. Police discussed with the victim’s daughter further ways to help her father.

Sunday, January 16, 2022

4:11 p.m. An Ashland resident reported that she believed her wallet was stolen while she was shopping in Marshalls at University Station. She had left her purse unattended in the shopping cart. When she left the store, she thought her purse felt lighter, and discovered that her wallet was missing.

Later in the afternoon, the woman received a text from her bank informing her that one of her cards had been used to purchase $1,014 worth of items. Additionally, four transactions of $2,000 each had been made at the Apple Store at Legacy Place. She cancelled her card and reported the incident to credit reporting companies and police.

Monday, January 17, 2022

6:22 p.m. Wegmans staff reported a larceny in-progress to police. The suspect, a 25 year-old woman from Dorchester, was engaged in an argument with a Wegmans employee in front of the store. The suspect then began walking in the direction of Panera Bread.

When police arrived, a Wegmans asset protection employee explained that the woman had attempted to leave the store with a cart of unpaid groceries worth about $289. The cart had lamb chops, organic drumsticks, lobster tails, king crab legs, pineapple, and chicken salad, among a number of additional items.

Police found the woman and gave her a notice of trespass. Upon obtaining the woman’s identification, police learned that she was also wanted on a warrant from Quincy District Court for operating a vehicle on a suspended license. Police placed her under arrest.

She had a child with her, who was picked up by a friend. The woman was taken to the police station for booking. She was charged with larceny under $1,200, and later released on bail of $345.
