Dover-Sherborn, Westwood, Medfield High Schools Rank in Top 20 of U.S. News & World Report's 2022 Best High Schools

Dover-Sherborn Regional High School and Westwood High School are ranked numbers 7 and 12, respectively, of 378 public high schools in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. News & World Report.  The publication released its 2022 Best High School rankings on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. 

Other area high schools also performed well in the rankings. Rankings of nearby high schools in the top 50 included Medfield High School at 20, Sharon High School at 24, Needham High School at 27, Wellesley High School at 32, Brookline High School at 34, Newton South High School at 36, Newton North High School at 41, Medway High School at 49, and Milton High School at 50.

The top 20 public high schools in Massachusetts, according to U.S. News & World Report are:

  1. Boston Latin School (Boston)
  2. Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (Marlborough)
  3. Sturgis Charter Public School (Hyannis)
  4. Lexington High School (Lexington)
  5. John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science (Roxbury)
  6. Boston Latin Academy (Dorchester)
  7. Dover-Sherborn Regional High School (Dover)
  8. Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (Malden)
  9. The Bromfield School (Harvard)
  10. Weston High School (Weston)
  11. Hopkinton High School (Hopkinton)
  12. Westwood High School (Westwood)
  13. Belmont High School (Belmont)
  14. Pioneer Charter School of Science 2 (PCSS-2) (Saugus)
  15. Pioneer Charter School of Science (Everett)
  16. Excel Academy Charter School (East Boston)
  17. Match Charter Public School (Boston)
  18. Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (Acton-Boxborough)
  19. Hampden Charter School of Science (Chicopee)
  20. Medfield Senior High School (Medfield)

The methodology weighed college readiness (as measured by Advanced Placement participation and performance), reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance (in considering students who are black, Hispanic or low-income), college curriculum breadth and graduation rates. The rankings also considered science proficiency and performance for the first time, where data was available.
