U.S. News & World Report Ranks Westwood's Martha Jones School Best Elementary in MA, Deerfield Makes Top Ten

Westwood's Martha Jones School is ranked the top public elementary school in the state of Massachusetts, and Westwood's Deerfield School is ranked ninth, according to U.S. News and World Reports' October 12, 2021 report of rankings of elementary schools in the state.
Schools were ranked based on student performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well the students are prepared for high school.

Martha Jones School Overview
Martha Jones School alone occupies the top spot in U.S. News & World Report's rankings of public elementary schools in Massachusetts, despite having a student-teacher ratio of 13:1 which U.S. News & World Report says is worse than the district. Breaking down its overall top score, Martha Jones students tied for number one in the state for reading proficiency and tied for number three in the state for math proficiency. The school is evenly split with 50 percent female and 50 percent male students, and has a minority enrollment of 19.3 percent. All teachers on staff are reported to have at least three or more years of experience and all teachers are certified.
Deerfield School Overview
Deerfield students tied for third in the state for reading proficiency and tied for fifteenth in the state for math. Like Martha Jones, the student-teacher ratio is 13:1. Deerfield School is made up of 46 percent females and 54 percent males, and has a minority enrollment of 28.4 percent. There are 90 percent of full-time teachers who are certified and 95.5 percent of teachers have three or more years of experience.
How Downey, Hanlon and Sheehan schools Ranked
Hanlon School ranked 61 and Sheehan School ranked 64 in the state.Â
Downey School, which the U.S. Department of Education awarded the distinction of being a National Blue Ribbon School in 2019, ranked 39 in Massachusetts. The Blue Ribbon designation recognizes schools for overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.Â
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, U.S. News & World Report released 2022 Best K-8 Schools, its first ever rankings of more than 80,000 public elementary and middle schools in the United States. Charter schools and magnet schools were separately ranked in their own category.
