The fourth annual Town-wide Poetry Reading and Open Mic will take place at 6:30-8 PM, Tuesday, April 15, in the Westwood Library Meeting Room. Featured poet will be David Surette, author of seven poetry collections, including Malden, Stable, Young Gentlemen's School, Wicked Hard, The Immaculate Conception Mother's Club, Easy to Keep, Hard to Keep In, and his most recent collection, Tonic. Signups for the Open Mic segment will begin at the door at 6:15 PM., with one poem or three minute time limit per poet.
Also featured readers will be incoming Poet Laureate Beth Swinning, Youth Poet Laureate Elizabeth Lowney, and members of the Tuesday Evening Poetry Workshop: Karen Michelson, Jan Brogan, Avi Glaser, Sherri Stepakoff, Brian Mich, Marilyn Gove and Mike Dwyer. Current Poet Laureate Lynne Viti will emcee.
Surette as been a contributing editor at Salamander, an instructor at the Cape Cod Writers’ Conference, a keynote speaker at New England Young Writers’ Conference at Bread Loaf, and a contributor and scholarship recipient at the Bread Loaf Writing Conference. He has featured at poetry venues across New England. He was also the chief lyricist for the Boston punk band Boy’s Life. He attended Colby College. He taught high school for 33 years in Waltham and East Bridgewater. He grew up in Malden, MA and lives on Cape Cod.
