How to Participate in Town Government - Week of November 7, 2022

This week, as residents continue to submit vote-by-mail ballots and prepare to vote in-person at Westwood High School for Tuesday's State Election, a number of bodies of local government in Westwood continue the work of the town.

Monday, 11/7: Select Board discusses a disclosure by its chair.

Wednesday, 11/9: School Committee votes on possible changes to school start times for the coming academic year. Conservation Commission holds public hearings on construction plans.

Thursday, 11/10: Charter Review Committee continues its discussions for updating the Town Charter.


Select Board Meeting via Zoom, Monday, November 7, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. John Curran of Westwood's Board of Assessors will attend to discuss the FY 2023 Tax Classification Hearing, and Select Board will discuss a Comprehensive Plan update and a "Disclosure Regarding the Chair of the Select Board.

State Election Day Voting In-Person or By Mail, Tuesday, November 8, 2022. All Westwood registered voters who are voting in-person on Election Day can vote at Westwood High School at 200 Nahatan Street. Residents can continue to drop off vote-by-mail ballots to the Town Clerk on State Election Day and the Westwood Police Station drop box until 8:00 p.m. Town Clerk Dottie Powers requests vote-by-mail ballots be returned as early as possible. 

Vote-by mail ballots will also be counted if they are postmarked by 8:00 p.m. on State Election Day and received by the Town Clerk's Office by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022.


School Committee In Person Meeting, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. After opening the meeting, the committee will enter an Executive Meeting to discuss collective bargaining, returning to public meeting at a scheduled time of 7:00 p.m. 

The School Committee will vote on possibly changing school start times. Other actions include a second reading of the Anti-Bullying policy and Acceptable Use policy. The School Committee Chair will also provide an update on the school building project and the policy review subcommittee.

The Superintendent's report includes discussion of membership in the Massachusetts Partnership for Youth, an MA DESE Targeted District Review report, Metrowest Adolescent Health Survey, McKinney-Vento audit and SEPAC update.

The public can attend this meeting at Westwood High School's Little Theater at 200 Nahatan Street. Westwood Media Center will also livestream and record the meeting for later viewing.


Conservation Commission Public Hearings via Zoom, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The commission will hold public hearings on the construction of a new house at 510 Far Reach Road, clearing trees and brush at 110 Arcadia Road, and additions at 7 Little Boot Lane. Charter Review Committee Meeting via Zoom, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. The committee will discuss responses to a survey and hold discussions with elected and local officials regarding updates to the Town of Westwood Charter. For information to join remotely, click here.
