Westwood Area Electric Customers Still without Power Late Monday Night
By 11:25 p.m. on Monday evening, December 18th, about 27 percent of Westwood electric customers were still without power, due to electric outages caused by toppled trees and downed electric lines when strong winds and rain tore through the Westwood area on Sunday night and Monday, according to data from Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Power outages were also experienced in neighboring towns, and throughout central and eastern and southeastern Massachusetts. But maintenance crews were unable to begin repairs until strong winds died down, allowing them to go up safely in a bucket. Additionally, Eversource reported on its X feed that street flooding in areas including Newton, made it difficult to respond to some locations to make repairs.
Around 11:25 p.m. on Monday evening, MEMA data showed a power outage for 92 percent (3,790) of customers in Millis. Sherborn still experienced an outage for 29 percent (or 540) of customers. Outage percentages were lower in other nearby communities around the same time:
Medfield 19 percent (952 customers)
Dover 16 percent (362 customers)
Walpole 10 percent (1181 customers)
Needham 7 percent (861 customers)
Newton 5 percent (2226 customers)
Canton 4 percent (483 customers)
Dedham 2 percent (236 customers)
