Interested in Serving in Westwood's Town Government? Nomination Papers Now Available

This January and through March 8, 2024, Westwood residents who are interested in running for open elected positions in town government can pick up their nomination papers by appointment from the Westwood Town Clerk's Office. Interested candidates must submit a minimum of 50 signatures in support of each candidacy; however, Westwood Town Clerk Dottie Powers has noted that obtaining at least 60 signatures is recommended.

The Annual Town Election will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The deadline to submit nomination papers is 5 p.m. on March 12, 2024.

According to a candidate preview from the town as of the posting of this article, the open positions and the interested residents who have so far pulled nomination papers are as follows:

Board of Assessors - One seat will be open for a three year term. Nancy C. Hyde has pulled nomination papers.

Housing Authority - One seat will be open for a five year term. Louis Rizoli has pulled nomination papers.

Library Trustee - Two seats will be open for three year terms. Mary Masi-Phelps and Maria Ryan have pulled nomination papers.

Moderator - One seat is open for a one year term. James M. O'Sullivan has pulled nomination papers.

Planning Board -Two seats are open for three year terms. Ellen Larkin Rollings has pulled nomination papers.

School Committee - One seat is open for a three year term. Maya Plotkin has pulled nomination papers.

Select Board - One seat is open for a three year term. Robert R. Gotti has pulled nomination papers.

Sewer Commission - One seat is open for a three year term. Diane E. Hayes has pulled nomination papers.

All of the above-named residents are incumbants, whose pulling nomination papers indicates an interest or consideration in running for re-election. 

Of the above positions, members of the Board of Assessors, Select Board, and Sewer Commission may receive a small amount of compensation. All other positions are unpaid. 

Additionally, candidates are required to attend a half hour online training regarding campaign finance obligations.
