How Westwood Residents Voted in the November 5, 2024 Election

Here’s a look at how the issues and the candidates (in contested races) fared with Westwood voters, compared to the results of the November 5, 2024 election:

U.S. President (Donald Trump elected)

Westwood voters overwhelming voted for Kamala Harris/Tim Walz (6,097 votes) over Donald Trump/JD Vance (3,468 votes). Westwood voting mirrored the outcome in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where Harris/Walz succeeded in gaining the state’s 11 electoral votes.

Nationally, the Trump ticket bested the Harris ticket decisively, with 295 electoral votes for Trump (270 needed to win) that represents about 72.6 million votes, to 226 electoral votes for Harris that represents about 67.9 million votes, according to AP News.

U.S. Senator (Incumbent Elizabeth Warren elected)

Elizabeth Warren prevailed over John Deaton in Westwood, mirroring the statewide result. In Westwood, there were 5,445 votes for Warren (55 percent of votes cast) and 4,287 votes for Deaton (44 percent of votes cast).

Statewide, according to the AP, Warren secured 59.6 percent of votes cast compared to Deaton’s 40.4 percent of votes cast.

Representative in Congress Eighth District (Incumbent Stephen Lynch elected)

In Westwood, Stephen F. Lynch garnered 6,265 votes to Robert Burke’s 3,314 votes. Statewide, Lynch secured 70.2% of the vote compared to Burke’s 29.8%.

Representative in General Court Eleventh Norfolk District (Incumbent Paul McMurtry reelected)

Challenger Andrew Pepoli, an Independent, earned 7,645 votes from voters in Dedham, Walpole, and Westwood. Of those, 2,835 votes (37%) came from Westwood. McMurtry prevailed with 16,259 votes in all, of which 5,754 (35%) came from Westwood.



On the ballot questions, here’s how Westwood voted:

Question 1: Whether to allow the state Auditor to audit the state Legislature?

  • MA voted Yes
  • Westwood voted Yes (6,818 yes; 2,520 no)

Question 2: Whether to do away with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) exam as a standard of assessment for competency to graduate high school 

  • MA voted Yes
  • Westwood voted No (4,350 yes; 5,447 no)

Question 3 : Whether to allow transportation network drivers to unionize and to engage in collective bargaining?

  • MA voted Yes
  • Westwood voted No (4,176 yes; 5,243 no)

Question 4: Whether to legalize psychedelic substances?

  • MA voted No
  • Westwood voted No (3,270 yes; 6,305 no)

Question 5: Whether to increase wages of tipped employees over a number of years until it meets state minimum wage, and allow employers to pool employee tips?

  • MA voted No
  • Westwood voted No  (2,802 yes; 6,804 no)
