Statement of Michael W. Morrissey, Norfolk District Attorney

January 12, 2026

After thorough consideration, I have decided not to seek reelection this November.

I am extremely proud of the work I have accomplished during my 15 years as Norfolk District Attorney, and I believe the time is right for me to start a new chapter in my life. I ran for this office to stand up for victims and give them a voice. I am proud to have done so for countless victims over the years and am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and in the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.

Being District Attorney is about pursuing justice with integrity and fairness. I am incredibly proud of the meaningful work our office has accomplished, both in the courtroom and throughout the community.

I want to thank the Massachusetts State Police, the twenty-eight Norfolk County police chiefs, and the dedicated men and women of law enforcement who work tirelessly every day to keep our communities safe.

I am also grateful to our many community partners who have supported me over the years, including—but not limited to—the Norfolk Advocates for Children, the Norfolk County school systems, and our Substance Use and Drug-Free Community Coalition partners. Each of these groups has played a critical role in education and prevention, helping to reduce preventable harm and loss of life.

Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank the employees of the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office. I am deeply grateful to every Assistant District Attorney, Victim Witness Advocate, Administrator and Investigator who has served as a true public servant during my tenure. Their dedication and professionalism have been instrumental in strengthening Norfolk County and making it a safer place to live and work. I will forever be thankful for their service to the residents of Norfolk County.
