Mutual Aid between Westwood and Boston Police Leads to Charges
12:46 p.m. A Boston Police detective contacted Westwood Police for assistance in identifying two suspects believed to be involved in a theft from a South Bay Ulta Beauty store. On the day of the theft from that location, store staff informed Boston Police that the suspects had also been in Westwood on the same day. Westwood Police investigated incidents on that date and located a report believed to be the suspects manipulating items behind anti-theft cases at the Westwood Ulta Beauty location, before staff intervened. In that incident, it appears they left the Westwood store without taking anything. Police have identified the suspects through their vehicle registration for a red Toyota, which they were observed leaving one of the locations in. The information was shared with Boston Police and charges are expected.
Collision Causes Car to Fishtail, Crash into Utility Pole
1:51 p.m. Police responded to the intersection of Canton and Everett streets for the report of a 2-car accident with injuries. The driver of a 2016 Honda told police that the driver had entered the intersection and had no time to avoid a collision with a 2024 Mercedes-Benz. The crash caused the Honda to “fishtail” and rise onto only two wheels before its roof crashed into an electric utility pole, causing it to land on all four tires again. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz told police that she entered the intersection and did not see the Honda, which she believes arrived at the intersection by speeding. The Honda had damage to its passenger side and damage to its roof, which had hit the utility pole. The Mercedes-Benz had damage to its front end. Police determined that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz had failed to yield. Both cars were towed. Neither driver required transportation to the hospital.
Porch Pirate
5:24 p.m. Police received a report of a stolen package, taken from the porch of a residence at Highland Glen Road. The resident received an alert that the package had been delivered, but upon looking for it, discovered it was missing. The package contained vitamins from Walmart.
Suspect Arrested for Falsifying Checks is Suspect Days Later in Attempt to Cash a Fraudulent $8,000 Check
9:08 a.m. Police received report for a fraudulent check being deposited at Rockland Trust on University Avenue on February 11th. The bank manager informed police that a male entered the branch office, wrote a check at the counter, and asked the teller to deposit it and make a withdrawal from an account. The check was in in the amount of $8,000. Although the manager informed the individual that there is a waiting period to withdraw on the check, the individual was able to withdraw $3,800 from an account, likely due to other existing funds recorded there. The following day, bank staff discovered the check to be fraudulent and ineligible to be cashed. Additionally, Westwood Police were informed that several days before the incident in Westwood occurred, the suspect – who resides at the Budget Inn in Westwood - was arrested by Norwood Police on charges related to falsifying checks. Police are further investigating the report of fraud in Westwood.
One Thing Leads to Another
4:59 p.m. Police received a report of a male disrobing at the Budget Inn on Providence Highway. Police located the individual, whom police were familiar from previous interactions. The individual had no shoes and was wearing shorts and a tee shirt. He reportedly fell onto the pavement, and hit himself on the face, repeatedly. Police arrested him on a warrant from Quincy District Court for a probation violation, and he was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham to be evaluated.
Pursuit of Speeding Vehicle Leads to Arrest
9:26 p.m. Police observed a Mazda CX-60 speeding in the area of Budget Inn on Providence Highway, and saw the vehicle slam on its brakes to avoid crashing into a sedan. Police pursued the Mazda to the East Street Bridge, where it was determined to be traveling at 70 m.p.h. in a 50 m.p.h. zone. Police made the traffic stop in the area of Audi Westwood on Providence Highway. Upon speaking with the driver, police observed that the driver, an Attleboro resident, had slurred and lethargic speech and smelled of alcohol. He reportedly told police that he had two beers with friends and had just left Hooters restaurant. After conducting field sobriety tests, police arrested the man for driving under the influence of liquor. He received a citation for the same, along with speeding. He was released on personal recognizance.
