Monday, May 18

Resident Learns of Credit Card Fraud Through Emailed Address Change Alerts

10:07 p.m. A resident of Gay Street complained that her credit card(s) had been used by someone to purchase multiple items totaling around $3,800. She became aware of the purchases after receiving emails notifying her of updates being made to her shipping address.

Sunday, May 17

Reported Illegal Drug Use

6:56 p.m. A caller reported seeing a male and a female in the parking lot of Buckmaster Pond on Pond Street who were reportedly engaging in intravenous drug use. They were reported to be in or around a black, Toyota Camry. Police responded to the area but did not find any such vehicle there.

Saturday, May 16

Noise Disturbance Across Town Lines

10:47 p.m. Police received a call from Reynolds Farm Way regarding loud music playing. Police tracked the noise to a home about a quarter mile away in Walpole on North Street, just over the Westwood town line. Westwood Police notified Walpole Police of the noise disturbance.

Friday, May 15

Resident Reports Mailbox Fishing of $2,800 Check

10:49 a.m. A resident of High Street complained of mailbox fishing after dropping a check for $2,800 into an outdoor mailbox for delivery to a business, after which the check appears to have been intercepted in the mail. Someone had changed the payee name so that the check was instead made out to an individual named “Carla Cigarroa.” The changed check was subsequently cashed. Police said they are unaware of anyone by that name residing in Massachusetts.

Dirt Bike Riders on Bayley Street

4:05 p.m. A caller reported that a number of males were yelling and screaming and riding dirt bikes around the neighborhood of Bayley Street.

Child Reports Being Followed on East Street

8:07 p.m. A child residing on Pine Lane called police regarding a past event on East Street in which the 11-year-old described being followed by a stranger. The child told police that the white male was wearing a walking boot and giving the child “weird” looks. Police did not find anyone matching that description.

Traffic Stop for Using Cell Phone Turns Into Arrest

9:03 p.m. An officer made a traffic stop of a white, GMC Sierra pickup, upon observing that the driver was using a cell phone while driving. The officer discovered that the driver, a resident of Hyde Park, had a warrant for arrest from Wrentham District Court for failing to pay a fine for a license plate violation. The officer cited the driver for a violation of the hands-free law and arrested the driver on the warrant.

Wednesday, May 13

K-9 Recovers Airsoft Gun

5:45 p.m. Westwood Police’s K-9 unit was requested by the Plymouth Police Department to assist in the search for a discarded weapon after a person reportedly brandished a firearm while threatening a victim who called 911. When Plymouth Police stopped the suspect in his vehicle, no firearm was found. Westwood’s K-9 unit recovered an Airsoft gun, believed to have been used by the suspect, after a 45-minute search.

SUV Strikes Telephone Pole, Driver Transported to Hospital

6:09 p.m. Police responded to a single-vehicle crash into a telephone pole on Fox Hill Street. The driver, a man from Norwood, was transported to the hospital. The man’s blue Nissan Rogue appears to have left the road and struck the pole. No citation was issued.

Tuesday, May 12

Resident Charged for “Free” Chimney Repair Estimate

9:44 a.m. A resident of Wagon Road reported being a victim of larceny or fraud after writing a check for $99 to the employee of a chimney repair company that provides free estimates. The resident told police that the company advertises that estimates are free, but the worker who provided the estimate told her to write a check for $99 to “AGN.” Following the incident, the resident contacted the company office, which confirmed that estimates are free. Police are investigating.

Police Discover a Neglected Residence

12:45 p.m. Police responded to a request by an elderly resident of Highland Glen Road for transportation assistance to the CVS store in Norwood. Upon arrival at the resident’s home, police observed unsafe and neglected living conditions that they described as a “public health nuisance.” The resident was referred to Health and Social Services Consortium, a nonprofit organization that contracts with the state to provide resources to older adults to help them live independently.

Ice Cream Truck Complaint

3:45 p.m. Police responded to a report of concern regarding an ice cream truck at the School Street playground with only one employee in the truck. According to police, in Westwood, there must be a second person in the truck to observe pedestrians while one person provides service. The truck was no longer in the area when police arrived.

Texas Resident Discovered Hiding Behind Ice Cream Shop

5:07 p.m. Police received a report from an employee of Bubbling Brook on High Street regarding a suspicious person hiding behind the eatery building. Police responded and found a man apparently hiding. The 50-year-old man from Texas did not provide a reason for being there. He was asked to leave, and he did.

Monday, May 11

Norwood Resident Charged with Shoplifting

12:06 p.m. A 43-year-old Norwood resident was observed concealing clothes in her bag while in the checkout line at the Target store on University Avenue. She paid for some, but not all, of the merchandise. She was stopped and found with merchandise valued at $207 concealed in her possession. She was charged with shoplifting and trespassed from the store.

Boston Man Suspected of Stealing Trading Cards Worth Thousands

5:28 p.m. Police responded to the Target store on University Avenue on the report of a shoplifting in progress when a man was observed concealing merchandise in a reusable shopping bag. Staff intercepted the suspect as he attempted to walk out of the store without paying. The suspect, a 46-year-old man from Boston, was found in possession of numerous boxes of NFL trading cards, NBA trading cards, and WNBA trading cards, with a total value of almost $3,000. The value of the items could potentially support a charge of larceny.

Cell Phone Photo Insufficient ID for Alcohol Purchase

6:18 p.m. Police were summoned to Roche Bros. supermarket on Washington Street when two customers became argumentative after an unsuccessful attempt to purchase alcohol without a physical form of identification. One of the customers had provided a photo of a driver’s license on a cell phone, which was rejected as insufficient identification. An argument ensued, and police escorted the two young adults, one from Stoughton and one from Dorchester, out of the store.
