Westwood Friends of the Library Annual Meeting with Guest Author Lynne Viti

The Friends of the Westwood Library (FOL) will hold their annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, in the Meeting Room at the Main Library, 660 High Street, Westwood. This year’s guest speaker will be Lynne Viti, a prize winning poet and author whose accomplishments include being selected as the first Westwood Poet Laureate and authoring four poetry collections and a short fiction book.

The Friends of the Westwood Library (FOL) is a not-for-profit volunteer fundraising and outreach organization that works to enhance visitors' experience at the public library. FOL seeks to make the library a place for members of the community to learn and grow together.

New members are always welcome, and are those considering joining the Friends of the Library are especially encouraged to attend on May 18. The program is free and open to the public, and the Westwood Library is fully accessible.

Dr. Viti will read from her most recently published book, The Walk to Cefalù, as well as from her work-in-progress, a collection of poems focusing on Westwood locations, history, people and artifacts. These include Hale, the old Westwood Lodge, Buckmaster Pond, Bibi Café, and the Old Westwood Cemetery. An informal Q & A and book signing will follow the reading.

Dr. Viti was most recently awarded prizes for her poetry by New York City’s Westbeth Artists Housing’s Miriam Chaikin Award for Poetry, and the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Contest, sponsored by the Poetry Center in Paterson, New Jersey.

The FOL underwrites a variety of library programs including author visits, adult and children's programing, and museum passes, helping the library with needs outside its regular operating budget.
