Friends of the Blue Hills to Host Annual Celebration on October 19

The Friends of the Blue Hills warmly invites the community to its Annual Celebration on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Attendees will mix, mingle, and celebrate the Blue Hills. The event will take place at the Canton Town Club, 300 Bailey Street, Canton. The festive evening will include cocktails, appetizers, games, raffles, and silent auction items.

This year’s special guest speaker will be Brian Arrigo, the new Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Arrigo’s keynote address will touch on the many ways that the DCR embodies an ethos of kindness, both to the environment and to its many loyal visitors to its many sites.

The event will also honor longtime members Bob Vogel of Easton and Rosa Zhang of Milton. Vogel has given countless hours to the Blue Hills, as a trail worker and hike leader. Zhang has been a hiking, biking, and backpacking leader, and has led more than 2,000 hikes in the Blue Hills. Both honorees will be recognized for their tremendous efforts to protect and preserve the Blue Hills Reservation. The Friends of the Blue Hills community will also be saying goodbye to Judy Lehrer Jacobs, who is stepping down after serving 19 years as the organization’s executive director.

A unique raffle is a key part of the festivities, with the winner receiving a catered dinner for six from Northern Spy of Canton. Enter to win a magical dining experience atop the Blue Hills Observatory. Raffle tickets are $15 each or three for $35. Visit the Friends of the Blue Hills website for more details and to purchase tickets for the event and dinner raffle.
