Thanks to the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.
The popular Youth Leadership Academy run by the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office is opening a second location in Medway, according to Norfolk County Sheriff Patrick McDermott. The second location will be hosted at Medway High School and will make use of the school’s high and low ropes courses.
“The Youth Leadership Academy is a life-changing experience that has shaped an entire generation of Norfolk County youth,” said Sheriff McDermott. “By expanding to Medway, we are now able to ensure that even more youth from across the county have access to the important lessons and experiences that the Academy provides.”
With a goal of developing youth leaders in the community, the Academy includes icebreakers, games, activities, and demonstrations aimed at building self-confidence, problem-solving, goal-setting, and communication skills in a fun and adventurous environment. One of the highlights of the Academy is a high-adventure ropes course that challenges participants to set goals and push themselves beyond their boundaries.
The Medway Youth Leadership Academy is open to youth between the ages of 10 – 14 from across Norfolk County and runs weekly from July 10th through August 4th. Now in its 21st year, the Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Academy program is very popular among Norfolk County families and typically fills up quickly every year. I completely agree. Washington St. also has some terrible patches, especially the handicap ramps. I don’t understand why the DPW is responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses. It seems that those should be the responsibility of the property owner.
The sidewalks on High Rock and Hartford have been pretty treacherous this winter too. I didn't contact DPW about it though.
Cloudy , with a high of 42 and low of 26 degrees. Cloudy during the morning, sunny for the afternoon, partly cloudy in the evening, overcast overnight.
A true hero, though I'm not sure about the naming of the intersection after him. We already have a school named after him. Is there no one else who dedicated their life to this Town that the intersection could be named in memory of?
Thanks for the comment. Perhaps other candidates for a named intersection might be considered by the Select Board if presented with a petition or similar process as what was used here.
