The Islington Center traffic light at the intersection of Westwood’s Washington, School, and East streets is expected to undergo a change next fall, when the Town of Westwood plans to install a dedicated left turn signal for southbound Washington Street traffic turning onto East Street, as a solution to complaints by residents of frustratingly long waits to make that left turn.
At the same time, the current left turn signal that exists in the opposite direction for northbound Washington Street traffic, turning left onto School Street, will be removed for safety reasons. Although the dedicated turn signal will be removed, the left turn will still be allowed.
The wait for installing the traffic signal change is because of the time necessary to get parts and equipment. It can take around 6 to 9 months, estimated consultant Ken Cram at Westwood Select Board’s remotely held meeting of December 9th.
No related changes to street markings on the roadways are contemplated.
Great news to wake up to
Congratulations, Erin, a well-deserved victory and a voice we sorely need in our town government.
Congratulation to all👏. It is a welcome out come to see some new faces and voice add to the town government.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 54 and low of 45 degrees. Patchy light drizzle in the morning, patchy rain nearby in the afternoon, partly cloudy in the evening, mist overnight.
This is one of the most up-lifting posts I've read in a while. Thank you for sharing (and inspiring).
First of all, the intersection improvements are scheduled for the upcoming years and they are not related to Westwood at all.
The plaza on 109 where the Post Office is located would be a prime site for a modern development. It is a relic from the 1950#. Why haven’t the town planners sought a project for that location?
This is Route 1, the most heavily commercialized corridor in the region, and calling this an “existential threat” isn’t based in reality.
