Westwood Poet Laureate Receives 2005 Grant for Poetry in the Schools and the Community

Westwood Poet Laureate Lynne Viti has received a grant for $1900 from the Westwood Cultural Council in collaboration with the Mass. Cultural, for the poet laureate poetry programs in the Westwood public schools and the community during 2005.

The grant will fund workshops and poetry performances by Massachusetts  poets in   the Westwood Schools, grades K-12, the fourth consecutive annual Teen Poetry Slam at Westwood High, and several poetry events at the Westwood Library during the year. The first of these will be an early Black History Month kickoff event for students and staff, a January 31 interactive reading at the Westwood High library, by Charles  Coe. An adjunct professor of poetry in the MFA program at Salve Regina University, and the author of six books of poetry and a novella, the multi-talented  Coe is also a singer and musician.
