Luck knows where to find Norwood resident Eugene Girard. On Friday, October 24th, he won big for the second time as the holder of eight lottery tickets worth $800,000 in the midday drawing for Massachusetts State Lottery's Mass Cash game.
Mr. Girard previously won $1 million on a Billion Dollar Blockbuster instant ticket in 2008.
In his second time striking gold this October, Eugene Girard had purchased eight tickets at Pam's Market in Norwood. All tickets had the same five numbers, sentimental choices that he says he plays on a regular basis.
When Mr. Girard's numbers were selected in the October 24th Mass Cash midday drawing, he held tickets for eight separate $100,000 prizes. Mr. Girard claimed prizes for seven tickets, for a total of $700,000 before taxes. He gave one winning ticket to his son, Norwood resident Matthew Girard, who claimed the eighth $100,000 prize.
Mr. Girard plans to use his winnings to buy a car, make home improvements, and build his savings. Matthew plans to use his prize to purchase a car and invest.
Pam's Market, located at 210 Pleasant Street in Norwood, will receive $8,000 in bonuses for its role in selling the eight winning tickets.
The Massachusetts State Lottery introduced its midday Mass Cash drawing just two months ago in mid-August.
Thanks to Massachusetts State Lottery for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
Moderate or heavy snow showers, with a high of 37 and low of 7 degrees. Sunny for the morning, overcast in the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
337 people showed up on a cold February night to vote against a non-binding resolution.
Yes, they did.
And this attendance and participation demonstrates how strongly folks on both sides of this issue feel about it, and how a majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw from the lawsuit. It was a far larger turnout than in annual town meetings.
It is false to assume a large majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw. You can only say that the majority who showed up wanted to say that. According to Google AI, the average turnout at annual town meetings is 3.9% from 2018-2025, this was 4.6%.
Rob - your departure is Westwood's loss. I know well the time, effort and energy our elected officials expend. Thank you for all you have done on Westwood's behalf.

The Select Board has no one to blame but themselves for what has transpired the past two days.
Thank you for your commnet with some very valid observations. As a resident of over 35 years I have participated in the past in Town Meeting and do vote. But now, as with other senior residents, it is not always possible to attend the Select Board meeting in the evening.
This didn't need to happen. Unfortunately, out of everything described of said individual, by the individual, there were key attributes not recognized and spoken of.
