Prospect players from the Boston Bruins summer prospect camp will be at Westwood Public Library on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 30 to help kick off summer reading for children and teens as part of the “When You Read, You Score!” campaign, as they join young readers in an interactive afternoon of reading and three hockey-themed activities.

Activities will include a hockey-themed story time about teamwork, a hockey-themed craft, and a hockey shootout. The afternoon will finish with participants receiving an official 2026 READ poster featuring Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy and autographs with the prospect players.

A recommended reading list, "Favorite Books of the Boston Bruins," developed with the help of Bruins players including David Pastrnak, Jeremy Swayman, and Pavel Zacha, will also be available at the event.

“We’re certainly proud of the team and their support of summer reading has really made a difference,” said Caitlyn Leopardi, Youth Services Librarian. “And we’re happy to welcome the Bruins to the Westwood Public Library."

“When You Read, You Score!” is a statewide initiative developed through the collaboration and support of the Boston Bruins, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and the Massachusetts Library System. It provides free programming to libraries and residents to support reading and literacy.

Summer reading helps students avoid the “summer slide” and maintain skills they have learned over the past academic year as they head into the upcoming school year.
