Poet Dariana Guerrero Leads Westwood High Creative Writing Students in Revision Workshop

This post expresses the views and opinions of the author(s) and not necessarily that of Westwood Minute management or staff.

Poet and educator Dariana Guerrero paid a visit via Google Meet to Westwood High School teacher Kieran Moriarty’s creative writing class on October 28. In her fifty minute mini-workshop, Guerrero, who currently teaches writing at a nonprofit in Lawrence, Massachusetts,  focused on revision, a key process forany successful writer. She shared a few of her own poems with students, led them through an analysis of earlier drafts of the poems and the changes she made to reach the final version. She then showed how to apply revision techniques to their own poems on the spot, and a discussion on their results followed.

This interactive discussion- based workshop was supported by a grant Westwood author Lynne Viti received from the Westwood Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, to fund honoraria for this Poets in the Schools project during 2023.
