Medfield Public Schools’ request to enter the MSBA program which reimburses eligible cities, towns, and school districts for school construction costs, was denied in mid-December last year, announced MPS Superintendent Jeffrey Marsden and School Building Committee Co-Chairs Mike Weber and Meredith Chamberland on Friday, January 12, 2024.

MSBA approved 52 of 63 applications for eligibility into its program in the 2023 cycle, according to the district and school building committee. They note that MPS had been accepted into the MSBA process in 2019. However, while the proposal for a new building on the Wheelock School campus received a majority of votes at Town Meeting, it failed to obtain the two-thirds vote needed for passage.

MPS Superintendent Marsden announced plans to recommend that MPS reapply for the MSBA program in February, which requires both Medfield School Committee and Medfield School Board approval.

Medfield's Dale Street School, which houses 4th and 5th graders, is more than 80 years old, and replacing it has been under discussion by the town for over 20 years.
