Early Sunday morning is the time to move your clocks ahead one hour, with Daylight Savings Time at 2:00 a.m. on March 10th.
Daylight Savings Time is also a good reminder to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, say local fire departments from Norwood and Canton.
To test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, press the test button to ensure it sounds an alarm. Ensure that batteries are working, and replace batteries or the alarm itself, immediately, if necessary.
The risk of dying in a home structure fire is decreased by 55 percent in homes with working fire alarms, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
Smoke alarms should be installed in these locations:
- Inside every bedroom;
- Outside sleeping locations;
- Every level of the home (including the basement) or near the stairway to an upper level.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that over 400 people in the United States die each year from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning that is not linked to fires, more than 100,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 14,000 are hospitalized.
Carbon monoxide detectors should be installed in these locations:
- Outside each sleeping location
- Every level of the home
- Where otherwise required by law, standard, or code.
