Fatal Crash on Providence Highway
3:52 p.m. Police responded to the scene of a single-motor vehicle crash into the Budget Inn building on Providence Highway. For more information about this incident, see Westwood Minute’s article, “Westwood Police Investigate Fatal Route 1 Crash.”
Attempted Larceny of SUV
4:42 p.m. Police received a report of an attempted larceny of a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe that was parked on Brigham Way. The complainant told police that she had parked behind one of the buildings on Brigham Way around 1:00 p.m., and upon returning to her vehicle around 4:00 p.m., discovered the rear passenger window was broken. Additionally, someone had tampered with the steering column and ignition wiring.
Ulta Beauty Stores Targeted in String of Thefts
12:17 p.m. Police received a call from staff of the Ulta Beauty store on University Avenue regarding a past shoplifting. The suspect is a male resident of Boston who was recently released from jail, and is suspected of thefts at four Ulta Beauty stores in different Massachusetts locations that include Westwood, Peabody, and Hanover.
Police Chase of Two Mopeds
11:00 p.m. Norwood Police informed Westwood Police that Norwood officers were pursuing two mopeds or scooters into Westwood, in the area of Washington and Everett streets. The chase was terminated in Westwood, near the fire station.
Suspect Conceals Merchandise in Clothing
2:00 p.m. Police responded to Nordstrom Rack on University Avenue after the store’s asset protection staff reportedly observed a 30-year-old Foxborough resident concealing merchandise in a sweatshirt, and bypassing cashiers without paying for the concealed items, although she paid for other items. The woman is suspected of taking skincare products and jewelry valued at $29. She was trespassed from the store and will be summoned for shoplifting.
Unexplained Window Break in Parked Car
3:03 p.m. A Larch Street resident reported a “spider crack” on the rear window of the resident’s car, which was parked in the driveway overnight. Upon entering the car and closing the car door, the window glass reportedly broke inward. Police noted there were no signs of forced entry and nothing appeared to be missing from the car.
One Thing Leads to Another
5:09 p.m. An officer made a traffic stop in the area of High Street and Windsor Road after observing a moped with no license plate displayed. The operator was identified as a 31-year-old Douglas resident whose license was suspended. The officer also discovered that the moped had never been registered. The operator was cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Dog Bites Guests Inside Home
10:45 p.m. Police received a report of a dog bite from two Boston residents who were visiting a family friend on Nahatan Street in Westwood. The Boston residents – a parent and a son - reportedly had just walked through the door of the Westwood residence when a German Shepherd living there bit the son. The complainants were not sure which dog caused the bite because three dogs resided at the home, and two of the dogs were German Shepherds who looked very similar.
Resident Reports Youths Acting Suspiciously
11:47 a.m. A Jessica Lane resident reported suspicious behavior by middle school-aged boys who reportedly were riding bicycles around his home. One boy reportedly walked up steps toward the home, appeared to realize someone was at home, and subsequently left. Police investigated and found no harm done.
Package Stolen from Apartment Complex Mail Room
3:04 p.m. A resident of Gables University Station apartments reported a stolen package from the complex’s mail room. The package reportedly contained activewear and accessories valued at around $300.
Runaway Grocery Cart
3:12 p.m. Police received a report of a stolen shopping cart full of groceries. An elderly Canton resident had shopped at Wegmans supermarket and was in the process of beginning to transfer groceries into her vehicle when she realized her cart was no longer by her car. The cart had been holding not only groceries but also her purse. She reported what she suspected was a theft. However, sometime later, with her family’s help using the Find My iPhone feature, the shopping cart was located at the opposite end of the parking lot, tipped over. It appears the cart had rolled away from her car, possibly due to wind or a slope in the ground. All items appear to have been recovered.
Porch Décor Stolen on Wentworth Street
10:58 a.m. Police received a report from a Wentworth Street resident that an artificial plant with solar lights had been taken from the home’s front steps.
Stolen Delivery on Cedar Lane
6:16 p.m. A Cedar Lane resident reported a stolen package. The resident had ordered two items to be delivered on the same day, but only received only one of the items, even though Amazon sent a notice that the item had been delivered. The missing package contained hedge trimmers.
