The athletes of Westwood High School Girls Lacrosse and Girls Track and Field had an eventful weekend. There was a Division 1 lacrosse state final where the Wolverines attempted, but fell short, in a bid for a third consecutive state title. Then there was the New Balance Nationals track meet, where the girls of WHS Track added an eighth broken school record to an incredible streak of breaking school records this year.

On Sunday, June 18 2023, Westwood Athletics announced  that WHS Girls Lacrosse fell to Lincoln-Sudbury in the Division 1 state final at Babson College.  It was Lincoln-Sudbury's first state lacrosse title in 35 years. The score was 10-9.

Also on Sunday, Girls Distance Coach Jen Teahan announced on Twitter that the Westwood High School sprint medley relay team of Junior Ruby Codrington, Sophomore Harper Morrison, Senior Captain Olivia O'Neill, and Freshman Tea Pagnotti had "smashed" the Westwood High School record  while placing sixth in their event that day at the New Balance Nationals. The new record is 4:13.5, about five seconds faster than the previous record.

The relay team's performance adds yet another stellar entry to an outstanding year for the girls of Westwood High School Track and Field. Stay tuned for more on the record-breaking performances of the girls of WHS Track and Field in a story soon to come.

Updated 6/19/2023. A correction to a reference to the relay team’s new record time has been made. It is not about 3 seconds faster, but about 5 seconds faster than the previous record.
